April Update – Big Steps Behind the Scenes

Firstly, I just want to wish everyone a Happy Easter, I hope you are all enjoying the long weekend break and taking some time out for yourself, family and friends. Now on with the news.

Another busy month has passed in the world of Soccer Supremos. Development continues at pace, new features are appearing, and the long-awaited League 4 launch is now very close.

Whether you’re an existing manager, a returning one, or someone still thinking about joining, here’s the latest from inside the game.

🏆 LEAGUE 4 – Just 15 Clubs Remaining

We are now just 15 sign-ups away from being able to launch League 4.

The goal is to get the league up and running during April, and ideally I would love to see all 64 clubs managed from the very first turn.

There is some encouraging news too. Another PBM football management game has kindly agreed to give Soccer Supremos a plug within their community. Hopefully that will generate a small wave of new managers joining the game.

However, if you are receiving this newsletter and have been considering joining League 4 yourself, please do so as soon as possible.

Remember:

✔ It is completely free to join

✔ Your first two turns are included free

✔ Choose your club and start building your football legacy

Let’s see if we can fill those final 15 spots and launch League 4 with a full set of managers.

⚙️ MATCH ENGINE V2 – Development Underway

The Match Engine is the core system that powers every fixture played in Soccer Supremos.

Since the game launched, Match Engine V1 has been running every match. Over time I’ve learned a great deal from both the results and the feedback provided by managers.

Work has now officially begun on Match Engine V2.

Development started just over a week ago, and this is not a quick project. At the moment I expect the work to take most of April before it reaches a stage where it is ready for testing.

When testing does begin, one possible approach may be to introduce the engine initially in friendly matches only, allowing time for fine-tuning before it becomes responsible for league and cup fixtures.

Some of the improvements planned for V2 include:

• Cleaner and more structured code architecture (this helps me respond quicker to implementing tweaks and improvements)

• Penalties for missing turnsheets

• Small penalties for submitting no tactics

• Handling of missing zonal tactics

• Improved and refined zonal tactical effects

Substitution control for managers

• Results and predictions designed to be more consistent and realistic

Richer match commentary

• Overall engine calibration improvements

This is a significant step forward for the game and will provide a stronger foundation for future development.

📈 MARCH FEATURE UPDATES

Alongside the larger projects, a couple of important improvements were introduced during March.

🎲 Betting Feature
Managers can now place a small flutter on cup matches from the Quarter Finals onwards.

During April, work should begin on the second phase of this feature, which will include:

• A breakdown of bets placed during the season

• A personal betting history for managers

• Additional betting statistics appearing in the Matchday Magazine

There are some interesting ideas still to come with this feature, so keep an eye out for further developments.

📱 Mobile Friendly Turnsheet
This has been sitting on the development list for quite some time, but it has finally been tackled.

Managers can now submit their turnsheets directly from mobile devices, making it far easier to manage your club while on the move.

It does mean I now maintain two versions of the turnsheet, but the additional workload is worth it if it makes the game more accessible.

So now… there are no excuses for missing a turn!

🔍 BEHIND THE SCENES

Several other pieces of development work are also quietly progressing in the background.

Rivalries continue to evolve slowly over time. This feature is intentionally designed as a long-burn system, gradually building historical rivalries between clubs as seasons pass.

Planning is also underway for International Matches, which will be introduced starting from Season 4 (though for L1 & L2 this will be delayed until Season 5 so to give me time to complete the development).

At the end of Season 3, every club will be assigned to one of four international regions, laying the groundwork for future international competitions.

More details on this will come later as development progresses.

⚽ FINAL WHISTLE

As you can see, it has been another busy month for Soccer Supremos, with plenty more development still to come.

I want to take this opportunity to thank every manager currently playing the game and supporting its ongoing growth.

If you used to play Soccer Supremos — or have never tried it before — please consider jumping in and giving it a go.

Ideally in League 4, but there are also some clubs available in the existing leagues.

L1 | S4 | W2: Rangers and West Ham share top spot as Forest Green Rovers announce themselves in Division 3

Across the four divisions there were already some eyebrow-raising results – a Rangers side thumping their way to six points, a brave Sutton United seeing off Liverpool in the cup, a Colchester United shipped three at home without reply, and a Forest Green Rovers with a rating of 671 somehow sitting quietly in Division 3. It’s early days, but the shape of things to come is starting to emerge.

L4 | S1 | W1: Legend of La Rochelle opens — six clubs level in Group 1 as Everton drop points to Torquay

Six clubs share top spot in Group 1 after Week 1, each on three points — but it’s Walsall who grabbed the attention most. Derek Purvis’s side came into the season rated nowhere near the top of the squad rankings, yet Spackman’s 29th-minute goal was enough to beat Norwich City, a side carrying a considerably stronger squad on paper. It’s one result, and there are 29 more weeks to go, but Walsall have made a point early.

L3 | S2 | W12: Richmond march on as Division 4 erupts into four-way chaos

Division 4 produced the most drama of any division this week. Abbey United – who came into the match as leaders – lost 1-0 at home to Grove Old Boys, Bartholomew’s 21st-minute goal enough to take the points and scramble the table entirely. Tantany Rangers, who were sitting third, beat Hillgrove United 2-0 (Buchanan 2′, Simmonds 72′) to go top. Brompton Hotspur beat Quinton Athletic 2-0 (Manfredi 18′, Maradona 67′). And Grove Old Boys’ win took them level with Abbey United on 21 points.

L3 | S2 | W14: Richmond march on as Grange Hill snatch a lifeline

Week 14 lands at the exact halfway point of the season, and across all four divisions the picture is sharpening up nicely. At the top, leaders are holding their ground – but in several cases only just. Division 1 remains the tightest of the four at the top, with West London Blue, Mighty Greens and South Park Cows all pushing on points while the title race stays very much unresolved. Elsewhere, Richmond continue their march through Division 3 looking virtually unstoppable, while Division 4 is now a proper five-club scrap with Tantany Rangers only fractionally ahead of the pack.
