Impress the Fans, Grow Your Army
⭐ Supporters & How to Grow Them
Supporters are the lifeblood of your club – they drive atmosphere, boost income, and add prestige. You won’t build a massive following overnight, but steady, consistent performances will grow your fanbase over time. Here’s how the system works.
🎯 1. Your Division Doesn’t Matter – Your Performance Does
Supporter growth takes no notice of which division you’re in. You can build a strong following at any level of the table. What matters is how you perform relative to your opponent in each league match – and whether that performance meets, exceeds, or falls short of what your supporters expected.
⚖️ 2. Expected vs Actual Performance
Before each match, the game compares your league position with your opponent’s to set an expected outcome. How your actual result measures up against that expectation is what drives supporter movement.
👍 If you’re higher in the table:
Your supporters expect a solid performance.
- Win comfortably – fans impressed, supporter growth follows
- Scrape a win or draw – fans underwhelmed, growth slows or stalls
- Shock loss – fans unhappy, potential supporter drop
👊 If you’re lower in the table:
Now you’re the underdog – and the crowd loves an underdog.
- Strong showing, even in defeat – fans take notice, growth follows
- Pull off a shock win – significant supporter boost
- Get hammered – no surprise, little to no growth
💡 Supporters react to how well you performed compared to what they expected – not just whether you won or lost.
📈 3. Small Clubs Grow Faster – Big Clubs Grow Steadier
If you have a small supporter base, it’s easier to pick up new fans quickly. As that base grows, the rate of growth naturally slows – and you’ll need increasingly impressive performances to keep the upward trend going. It mirrors real football: everyone loves a rising underdog, but established clubs have to perform consistently just to stand still.
🏟️ 4. Your Stadium Plays a Part
You can’t grow a massive following if supporters can’t get through the gates – or don’t want to once they’re inside. Ground capacity, stadium condition, and facilities all play a role, though the effect is modest rather than decisive. A poor stadium won’t stop you growing, but it does set a ceiling on how far that growth can realistically go.
🔥 5. Winning Isn’t Enough on Its Own
It’s not as simple as win match, get fans. The quality of performance relative to expectation is what counts. A routine win over a struggling side when you’re top of the table might barely move the needle. A gutsy draw against the league leaders when you’re bottom could bring in more new supporters than three comfortable wins put together.
Momentum and consistency are what build a fanbase over a season. One impressive result helps – a run of them is where real growth happens.
🔁 6. Win and Losing Streaks
Streaks are likely to become a more significant factor in supporter growth in a future update – but they’re not currently a major part of the calculation. Worth keeping in mind as the system develops.
