L3 | S2 | W14: Richmond march on as Grange Hill snatch a lifeline
📰 Week 14 in Review – Season 2
Week 14 lands at the exact halfway point of the season, and across all four divisions the picture is sharpening up nicely. At the top, leaders are holding their ground – but in several cases only just. Division 1 remains the tightest of the four at the top, with West London Blue, Mighty Greens and South Park Cows all pushing on points while the title race stays very much unresolved. Elsewhere, Richmond continue their march through Division 3 looking virtually unstoppable, while Division 4 is now a proper five-club scrap with Tantany Rangers only fractionally ahead of the pack.
The Supremos Cup reaches Round 2 next week, and that is already throwing its own complications into the mix for several clubs who still have real ambitions on two fronts. Fifteen games remain in the league season – enough time for plenty to change, but not so much that any club can afford to coast.
| Division | Leader | Pts | 2nd Place | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | West London Blue | 33 | Mighty Greens | +4 |
| 2 | Frenchy’s Dons | 32 | Alveley Wolves | +3 |
| 3 | Richmond | 40 | Fulchester United | +12 |
| 4 | Tantany Rangers | 28 | Brompton Hotspur | +3 |
🏆 Division 1 – Upset of the week
West London Blue pushed their advantage to four points at the halfway mark after Gudjohnsen and Zola swept them past Shin Kickers 2-0, the goals arriving late to confirm a comfortable afternoon for Loz Newbold’s side. Mighty Greens answered with a tidy 1-1 draw at Team Van Holland – Woodford pulling them level after Van Den Hauwe had put the hosts in front on 17 minutes – but Andy D will feel they needed more. South Park Cows climbed to third on the back of Gerblansky’s winner at Busby Babes United, the attacker turning an untidy passage of play into three points that feel important at this stage of the season.
| Pos | Club | Pts | GD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | West London Blue | 33 | +13 |
| 2 | Mighty Greens | 29 | +9 |
| 3 | South Park Cows | 28 | +10 |
| 4 | Indie Kids United | 27 | +8 |
| 5 | Special Criminals | 22 | +2 |
The story of the week, though, was not at the top – it was at Bridget McClusky Stadium, where Grange Hill Rovers beat Melchester Rovers 2-0. Back-to-back first-half goals from Green – both inside the opening 25 minutes – handed Geoff Baxter’s side only their fourth win of the season and a brief moment of daylight between themselves and the relegation zone. Melchester, who had won three of their previous five, dropped three places as a result and will be unsettled by a result that interrupts what had been building into some decent momentum. For Grange Hill, it was the win they desperately needed – and it came at exactly the right time.
⚠️ Leicester Lightening have now lost five league games in a row and sit on just 9 points at the halfway stage. Five of their remaining 16 games are at home, but their home record reads two wins and three losses. The drop is looking increasingly real for Patrick’s side.
The televised game this week was Special Criminals vs Indie Kids United, and it produced a tight 1-0 win for the hosts, Cahill’s 11th-minute strike the difference. Nipper Read’s side have now won six of their eight home league games this season, which puts them firmly among the home fortresses in the division – a point that matters more as opponents rotate attention between league and cup.
💙 Division 2 – Bottom of the table
Frenchy’s Dons have opened up a three-point gap at the top after a comfortable 2-0 win over Trumpton – Lang converting just before half time before French added a second on 63 minutes. Nick Bristow’s side now lead Alveley Wolves by three, but Wolves are not fading: they were held to a goalless draw by München Biscuits in a game that both teams probably feel they could have won. Further back, Supremos drew 0-0 at Camden Town to stay third, their unbeaten away run extending to another week in impressive fashion.
| Pos | Club | Pts | GD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Frenchy’s Dons | 32 | +10 |
| 2 | Alveley Wolves | 29 | +7 |
| 3 | Supremos | 25 | +6 |
| 4 | Camden Town | 24 | +7 |
| 5 | München Biscuits | 24 | +5 |
At the other end, the situation for Trumpton is becoming a genuine crisis. Stuart Merry’s side have now gone seven away games without a goal – zero from seven on the road – and that is a statistic that eventually becomes terminal in a sixteen-club division. They sit 15th on 10 points, level with Crazy Aces FC who are rooted to the bottom on 7. Tayside Royal are only fractionally better on 10. Three clubs are staring directly at the lower positions with no sign of a route out.
⚠️ Trumpton’s away record: seven matches, zero goals, zero points on the road. They have scored in seven of their eight home games this season, which means the issue is specific – whatever happens when they travel is not happening when they stay. Stuart Merry will know the problem; the question is whether he can solve it in time.
The best result outside the top five was Carrotasaray’s 1-0 win at Harchester United – Van Basten’s 75th-minute goal overturning a solid home record for Luke Finnegan’s side, who slip to 11th. And Deportivo La Rochelle continued their improving run with a 2-1 win at Tayside Royal, Turkyilmaz scoring both goals in the 7th and 64th minutes. Charles and Jay’s side are showing signs of settling into a rhythm after an inconsistent opening half to the season.
❤️ Division 3 – Form vs table mismatch
Richmond are now 12 points clear of Fulchester United with the season at its midpoint, and the manner of their continued winning is beginning to feel inevitable. Yakubu and Verth-Brown were the scorers against Ilkeston Rams – 29th and 65th minutes respectively – as Ted Lasso’s side moved to 40 points from 14 games. Their home record is perfect. Their away record has them winning five and drawing one from six away trips. They remain the single most dominant side across all four divisions in the league this week.
| Pos | Club | Pts | GD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Richmond | 40 | +25 |
| 2 | Fulchester United | 28 | +9 |
| 3 | Gwent Saints | 25 | +5 |
| 4 | Real Braintree | 25 | +4 |
| 5 | St Venage Borough | 23 | +1 |
The form table tells a different story further down. Portsea City sit 8th in the league table on 19 points, but their recent five-game form record is one of the best in the division – three wins, a draw, and a single defeat. Darren Watton’s side lost narrowly to Fulchester United this week, 1-0 through a Fartpants goal on 39 minutes, but that result followed four wins from their previous five and they remain well placed with ground to make up. A club that sits 8th but is playing like a top-five side is worth watching in the second half of the season.
💡 Woodhouse Imperial are another club whose table position understates their trajectory. Jon Dixon’s side have won three of their last five – including a 1-0 win at Waterside Rovers this week courtesy of Lake’s 45th-minute goal – and have quietly climbed to 7th. They are unbeaten in four league games. The clubs directly above them are starting to become aware of them.
Gwent Saints took full advantage of Mount Florida AFC’s stuttering home form, winning 2-0 at Croftfoot Recreation through Top Bins Thompson and McCrae with goals in the 8th and 12th minutes. Real Braintree also kept the pressure on with a 2-0 win over White Horse, Amarilla scoring twice either side of half time. The top four are tightly packed – three of those sides on 25 points and within striking distance of second place. It is Fulchester United who sit clearest of the immediate chasing pack, but they have a blank Tuesday this week after their cup exit and will not be able to afford slip-ups when the fixtures come thick and fast.
💛 Division 4 – Mid-table quiet climbers
Tantany Rangers hold first place on 28 points after beating Tintagel Knights 1-0 – Forsythe converting early on the fourth minute – but the gap over the chasing pack remains slender. Brompton Hotspur jumped to second after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Thetford Tigers, Maradona’s 85th-minute goal decisive in a tight contest. Grove Old Boys are level on 25 with El Diablo’s side after Martinez’s winner at Anfield Rockets, and Quinton Athletic remain a point back in fourth after drawing 2-2 with Stoke Prior.

|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Tantany Rangers | 28 | +9 |
| 2 | Brompton Hotspur | 25 | +7 |
| 3 | Grove Old Boys | 25 | +7 |
| 4 | Quinton Athletic | 24 | +6 |
| 5 | Abbey United | 22 | +4 |
The club worth keeping an eye on is Joburg Shongololo. Ian Dance’s side sit 6th on 20 points, which on the surface looks like comfortable mid-table. But their last five games have produced three wins and two draws – a points-per-game return that would put them near the top of the form table. Van Der Merwe scored in the 6th and Van Der Linden in the 42nd minute as they beat Hillgrove United 2-0 this week, and they are conceding very little. If that run continues, they will not be staying in 6th for long.
💡 Joburg Shongololo’s form over the last five games: three wins, two draws, five goals scored, two conceded. That is a record that would sit comfortably alongside any club in the top four. They are six points off the summit with 16 games to play.
Rotherham Town provided the result of the day in Division 4, coming from behind at Abbey United to win 2-1. Frecks opened the scoring on 9 minutes and Krol added a second on 62 to overturn Taylor’s 66th-minute goal – the timing matters: Abbey led for over half an hour before Krol turned it on its head in an ugly, back-and-forth spell. Muresca’s side have now won two of their last five and are quietly climbing toward mid-table after a difficult opening to the season.
🏆 Supremos Cup – Round 2
Round 1 was completed last week and Round 2 fixtures are now set for Week 15. Sixteen clubs remain in the competition, with prize money of £100,000 on offer for clubs knocked out at this stage.
The draw has thrown up some interesting ties. West London Blue host Woodfarm Warriors – a stern test of how seriously Loz Newbold’s side are taking the cup alongside their title push. Richmond travel to Westhill Town, which on paper looks one-sided given the gap in league form, but cup football has a habit of levelling things. Grove Old Boys face Supremos in what could be a tense affair between two well-organised sides. And Thetford Tigers – one of the unmanaged clubs – face Quinton Athletic in a tie that David Verney’s side should be expected to win.
| Round | Prize Money |
|---|---|
| Round 2 (exit) | £100,000 |
| Last 16 (exit) | £150,000 |
| Quarter-Finals (exit) | £250,000 |
| Semi-Finals (exit) | £400,000 |
| Final – Runner-up | £600,000 |
| Final – Winner | £1,000,000 |
🗞️ Around the league
Three managers guessed the score draws correctly this week and each walked away with £266,666 – congratulations to Ian Dance of Joburg Shongololo, David Hopkins of Mount Florida AFC, and Jamie Maycroft of Stoke Prior. Six score draws across the league – a busy week for the pools.
Crowd trouble flared at two Division 2 games. The Alveley Wolves vs München Biscuits match saw 45 arrests, four police officers injured, and £76,679 of stadium damage. The Camden Town vs Supremos game was worse: 58 arrests, eight officers injured, and £73,482 of damage. Both clubs will face the consequences of that in their accounts and beyond.
The gossip sheet continues to throw up its usual mix. S. Yakubu of Richmond leads the Division 3 top scorers on 15 goals for the season, while M. Sahnine of Quinton Athletic leads the way in Division 4 with 11. In the team spirit rankings, West London Blue, Fulchester United, and Supremos all feature at the top – which makes some sense given their respective table positions. High morale tends to correlate with winning, or vice versa.
On the unmanaged front, Vale Madrid in Division 2 remain without a manager at 10th, while in Division 3 both Real Braintree and Silversprings United continue without anyone in the dugout. Division 4 has Smackdown Rovers and Thetford Tigers in the same position. The league will be hoping those vacancies are filled soon – unmanaged clubs at mid-table are one thing, but with 16 games still to play the gap between a managed and unmanaged side tends to widen significantly.
