Understanding the personalities behind your squad
🧠 Hint Sheet #03
⭐ Personality Traits — Explained
Every player in Soccer Supremos has a set of personality traits.
You cannot see them immediately. They must be discovered over time — and the sooner you do, the better. Traits provide valuable insight into the mental make-up of a player and can help you avoid surprises later down the line.
🧬 1. What Are Personality Traits?
Personality traits describe how a player thinks, reacts, and behaves, both on and off the pitch.
They are based on the widely used “Big Five” personality model, also known as OCEAN:
Openness – creativity, curiosity, adaptability
Conscientiousness – discipline, organisation, reliability
Extraversion – confidence, sociability, energy
Agreeableness – cooperation, empathy, team focus
Neuroticism – emotional stability and resilience
Together, these traits paint a picture of who the player is, not how good he is.
🔒 2. Fixed for Life
Personality traits are:
✅ Defined at birth
❌ Cannot be changed
❌ Not influenced by training, form, or management
❌ Not under your control
You can’t “fix” traits — only understand and manage around them.
⚽ 3. Do Traits Affect Performance?
Not directly.
Personality traits:
❌ Do not affect match results
❌ Do not affect training gains
❌ Do not affect a player’s rating and skills potential
However… 😏
We all know that a player’s private life and mindset can indirectly impact his football career — and traits quietly feed into that.
🎯 4. Why Traits Matter
Traits are subtle, but powerful.
They help you:
Better understand the type of player you’re managing
Decide whether someone truly fits your squad culture
Anticipate behavioural issues before they become problems
Make tougher calls when talent alone isn’t enough
Sometimes, despite a player’s ability, the traits tell you everything you need to know.
🩺 5. How Do You Discover Traits?
To properly uncover personality traits, you’ll need a Physiotherapist on your support staff.
Your Physio has access to a specialist team, including:
Clinical psychologists
Counsellors
Mental health professionals
Together, they assess and identify player traits over time.
You can uncover traits in two main ways:
🔧 Physio Rating
As your Physio’s rating improves, he will gradually uncover more personality traits across your squad.
📋 Study Squad Order
This order allows you to instruct your Physio to spend a full week focusing on one specific player’s traits.
📄 6. Where Are Traits Recorded?
All discovered traits are listed in your Manager’s Report, under:
🕵️ Private Lives: Part 1
This acts as your working record of what you currently know about your squad’s personalities.
💰 7. Traits & the Transfer Market
A player’s market value does NOT include personality traits.
This is where smart managers gain an edge 👀
Knowing a player’s traits before buying or bidding can:
Justify paying above market value
Warn you away from a risky signing
Help you spot value others can’t see
🕶️ 8. Scouting & Intelligence
A Youth Scout may attempt to uncover traits of players on the circuit
Success is limited without a Physio
A Personal Spy can attempt to uncover traits of players at other clubs
His success improves significantly if you employ a Physio
In both cases, the Physio plays a crucial supporting role.
🏠 9. Traits & Private Life
Personality traits directly feed into a player’s private life.
They are not meant to dominate the game, but they do add depth, realism, and consequence to player behaviour over time.
⚠️ Final Notes
Traits are intentionally low-key, not game-breaking
They reward long-term thinking and good squad management
They help you look beyond stats and ratings
🚫 Non-player squad members do not have personality traits.
